Brian recently fitted an Alex-Jackson coupling to the sludge tender we will use on Bankside. This vehicle will have a starring role once or twice a sequence when it will be removed from the water softener siding and taken away for emptying.

From the Society Facebook page: We recently shared a picture of our clubroom looking freshly painted, after the work Brian and others have done to keep our home looking tidy.
Bankside has a representation of the ‘Metal Box Factory’ among its buildings. The building is real, but our model is intentionally an impression, rather than an a scale model. On our most recent club night Andy brought along his results; having completed painting the brickwork:

Many members have got the building to this stage. It is satisfying to see some of the first painted brickwork for our model!
We recently posted a new members ad in the edition of VantagePoint Magazine that is circulated in Dorking & Leatherhead. If you’ve seen our ad, please do get in touch if you’re interested in learning more.
Our regular meeting is on a Monday evening, and we have members from the South London area and Surrey. We’re currently working on ‘Bankside‘, which we aim to exhibit in due course.
We’ve added a specific page to act as a hub for all things ‘Bankside‘.

At a recent Monday meeting, we had the chance to look at some of the stock taking shape for Bankside (See if you can spot the work remaining!). Relatedly, we have been recently researching Ferry Vans. Bankside is inspired by the depot in Southwark that was known as the ‘Southwark Continental Depot‘. What we are not clear about is how much of its traffic was of goods imported via ferry vans. They make for appealing looking models, and would look a little different from many other layouts we have seen.
2020 was going to be a year when we took St Merryn to both the Newcastle and Warley shows. Of course, that didn’t happen as planned. We hope to exhibit at both shows when they can resume.
This weekend, we’re on the road with St Merryn in Lincolnshire. You can see the layout at the Spalding Model Railway Club’s 2017 exhibition:

A significant anniversary will be commemorated whilst ‘St Merryn’ is at the Southampton show. On the Saturday (28th January) it will be 50 years (to the day) since the last train ran from Bodmin to Padstow & return. At the end of each operating sequence during both days a special train will replicate the service on the last day.
